Marriage is not a ritual or an end. It is a long, intricate, intimate dance together and nothing matters more than your own sense of balance and your choice of partner. ~ Amy Bloom ~ [Source]

Often, it’s the men who will propose to the women once they feel that’s it’s time to marry. A proposal ring and a bouquet of her favourite flowers are often used. Sounds cliché? It does makes the men look boring. Singaporean ladies have mentioned that Singaporean men tend to propose with “Want to apply for a flat?” I have heard of remarks that marked the type of man as “lame” and “boring”.
It doesn’t even come close to surprising the woman and she won’t be able to proudly state to her children that their dads proposed with a romantic dinner and ring or some memorable ways that she will remember with a smile at the thought. So, what can men do to make that proposal more romantic without spending a bomb?
Weekend Getaway - Stay in a cabin in the mountains and propose as you hike to a waterfall with a picnic lunch. My friend had her proposal while on a short getaway in Bintan.
Christmas Proposal - Christmas is a perfect time to propose. Hang the ring box like an ornament on the tree. When the last present has been opened, say, “wait, there’s still one more present.” Ask your intended to find it, or simply retrieve it and propose.
Text Proposal - Take the scavenger hunt high-tech: send your mate a text message leading her to a secret spot. Keep her engaged by text messaging her sweet nothings along the way (and directions of course), as you lead her to you, on bended knee.
Flowers Proposal - Surprise her by sending a bouquet of flowers to her office or home. Tie the ring to the end of one of the stems. After the flowers are delivered, go to her office and propose.
Candle Proposal - Turn out all the lights in your apartment or home. Make a trail with candlelight leading her to your engagement ring.
Song Proposal - For those who are musically gifted try your hand at writing and recording a song for your partner. Upload it to her iPod and tell her about this great new song you’ve heard and ask her to listen to it.
These are just some of the ways to propose without spending too much and still be romantic. Do you have any innovative marriage proposal ideas to share?
